International Student Academics

Our international program is designed for students with some prior English training and ability. It allows new students to take an academically rigorous curriculum, while quickly improving their English. The courses for an international student are:

  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Rhetoric and Christian Thought
  • Fine or Performing Arts Elective
  • English Language Learning Class
  • Guided Study with a Certified ESOL Instructor

International students take most courses with their American peers; their history, mathematics, science, rhetoric, and art elective classes are the regular classes for their grade (see the Rhetoric Curriculum portion of the website). However, instead of the regular English literature class, first year international students take a special English class designed to help them both improve their English ability and get used to the style of English language and literature teaching at The Geneva School. In addition to this English class, international students are not required to take a foreign language. Instead, they are encouraged to be in a special guided-study work period, where a certified ESOL instructor helps them with their homework, writing, and any questions they may have about school and life.

AP and College Credit

International students are permitted and even encouraged to take all of the advanced level courses available to them at The Geneva School. For some classes, this means traditional Advanced Placement (AP) courses and tests. The Geneva School is also pioneering a new college credit program known as “Dual College Credit” in partnership with Colorado Christian University (CCU). This program gives CCU college credits for high school courses. CCU credits are accepted at most US colleges and universities. For more information about this program, visit CCU’s Dual Credit page.
